DESCRIPTION:
Melatonin is a hormone produced by the pineal gland in the brain. Once released into the bloodstream, melatonin prepares the body for sleep by decreasing temperature, alertness, and performance. Sleep TightTM Melatonin is safe and effective. It has been approved by the Natural Health Products Directorate (NHPD) of Health Canada to improve sleep quality, relieve daytime fatigue associated with jet lag, and ease shift-work transitions. |

|
In order to maintain optimal physical and mental performance while awake, the body requires adequate sleep to allow for well-being, muscle regeneration, digestion and immune function.
Additionally, insufficient sleep results in numerous behavioral and physical problems. This section contains products designed to aid in relaxation of the mind and help with sleep issues that are commonly encountered in today’s stressful and fast paced environment.

The darker you make the room you sleep in, the more melatonin your body produces.

RESEARCH:
Several studies have shown an association between decreased melatonin levels and increased risk of insomnia. Research has shown that melatonin increases the speed of falling asleep, improves quality and duration of sleep, and reduces the frequency of nighttime waking. Studies also support the use of melatonin to reduce the effects of jet lag. |
SIDE EFFECTS:
In rare instances, melatonin supplements may cause headache, transient depression, daytime fatigue, daytime drowsiness, dizziness, reduced alertness, abdominal cramps, or irritability. |
INTERACTIONS AND SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS:
Do not use if pregnant or breastfeeding. Do not operate a motor vehicle or machinery within 5 hours after taking melatonin. Consult with a health care practitioner prior to use if you have a hormonal disorder, diabetes, liver or kidney disease, cerebral palsy, a seizure disorder, migraine, depression, or hypertension, or if you are taking blood pressure or sedative/hypnotic medications. |
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS:
If symptoms persist continuously for more than 4 weeks, or if pain or other factors appear to be the cause of sleeplessness, consult your health care practitioner. |
